Many women have trouble sleeping during menopause due to hot flashes, night sweats, stress and the other fun stuff that goes along with low estrogen levels.  Migraines anyone??  The bummer is poor sleep is linked to hunger and weight gain because of two more hormones:  ghrelin (the “feed me” hormone) and leptin (the “I’m full” hormone).  Here’s a short blog I wrote on that topic.  If you’re sleep deprived, these hormones get out of whack.
Not that we should really argue with anyone whose nickname is "The Body," but the supermodel's method to looking so phenomenal at 51 is kind of a headscratcher for those not familiar. Relying on the ideology that an acidic body is more susceptible to disease that can throw metabolism and other things out of whack, Macpherson eats alkaline foods (including whole grains, leafy greens) and avoids things like coffee and alcohol in order to keep her inner pH balance in check. She even cops to taking pee tests in order to make sure things are in order. And she's not the only A-lister who does so: Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Aniston are also fans—and considering that's pretty much the Good Body Brigade, we'd say they're onto something.

If your tummy has been rounder than a pufferfish, it’s time to cut foods that cause bloat from your diet. “As we age, our bodies can’t break down lactose as efficiently. When we can’t efficiently digest something, it tends to cause gas and bloat, which is the opposite of a flat stomach. Avoid dairy foods, and you’ll likely see some improvement!” advises Amy Shapiro MS, RD, CDN of Real Nutrition NYC. Can’t give up your late-night cereal sessions? You don’t have to! Just opt for these better-for-you milk alternatives.
You deserve that glass of Scotch or wine, we know. But the unfortunate truth is that your body doesn’t metabolize alcohol as efficiently as you age. So, not only are you going to add on (or not be able to lose) weight because of alcohol, you also wind up looking older and sleeping worse. “[As you age] it will be increasingly difficult to get a good night’s rest with alcohol in your system and sleepless nights lead to carb and sugar cravings the next day,” says registered dietitian Martha McKittrick in 30 Foods You Should Never Eat After Age 30. Meanwhile, alcohol zaps moisture from your skin making fine lines more noticeable and speeding up your skin’s loss of elasticity.
Lastly, keep in mind that the weight loss strategies that work best for you could change down the road. "I find that for women over 40, myself included, it's vital to assess what you're doing each year," Largeman-Roth says. If your progress starts to stall, consider switching up parts of your diet or fitness plan. "Our bodies like a challenge," Largeman-Roth says.
“Many women find themselves sacrificing so much for their significant others, their children, their careers, and their volunteer service that by the time 40 hits, they haven’t done anything for themselves in years,” Honaman points out. “Retirement and empty-nesting will be here sooner than you think. Figure out who you are, and what you enjoy, so that you don’t wake up one day, look around, and wonder who that person is in the mirror.”
In other words? If certain foods seem to open the floodgates for you without fail, it might be better to steer clear altogether and stick with treats that don't trigger a binge. It might feel tough at first. But instead of seeing it as deprivation, reframe your decision as a choice—and a positive one at that. "Acknowledge that these foods don't work for you and the health goals that are important to you," Cederquist says.

A new report from the Credit Suisse Research Institute found that more and more of us are choosing whole-fat foods over skim, lite, fat-free or other modern monikers of leanness. And while many health organizations like the American Heart Association still want us to cut down on fat—particularly saturated fat—this full-fat trend may be a healthy rebellion against those decades-old credos, according to recent studies. In fact, people who eat a lot of high-fat dairy products actually have the lowest incidence of diabetes, according to a 2015 study of 26,930 people in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Those who ate a lot of low-fat dairy products, on the other hand, had the highest incidence. The researchers speculated that while calcium, protein, vitamin D, and other nutrients in yogurt are indeed good for us, we need the fat that goes along with them in order to reap their protective effects. These are some of the 20 Best Full-Fat Foods for Weight Loss!

"So it's extremely important to know that muscle is very metabolically active and that you don't want to lose it. That being said, a typical can man can lose over the course of the age of 30 through the age of 50 anywhere between 5 and 10 pounds of muscle mass. A woman could definitely lose that -- that's a given because she, through repeated dieting and decreased physical activity, will lose that," Peeke says.

While quality zzz’s can become ever-elusive as you age from busy schedules, back pain, or menopausal symptoms like hot flashes or insomnia, getting enough sleep is an essential component to weight loss. A good night’s sleep actually burns calories! Plus, studies have shown a strong link between lack of sleep and over-eating the following day. This is because the hormones ghrelin and leptin are thrown out of whack when you don’t get enough sleep, leaving you feeling more hungry but less satiated at every meal, which leads to overeating. 44 Year Old Dad Bod Transformation | Lost Over 50 lbs
Down a large Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Milkshake from Baskin-Robbins and you’ll devour 42 Chips Ahoy cookies worth of sugar and almost a half-pound worth of calories. Instead, you can make a protein shake at home with wholesome add-ins such as dates, cacao nibs, and a rich protein powder that can help you feel satiated without adding weight onto your waistline.
If there’s one supplement most Americans should be taking, it’s vitamin D. It’s essential for preserving metabolism-revving muscle tissue, but researchers estimate that a measly 20 percent of Americans take in enough via their diet. While you can nail 90 percent of your recommended daily value (400 IU) in a 3.5-ounce serving of salmon, popping a daily supplement is pretty convenient. Other good dietary sources: tuna, fortified milk and cereal, and eggs. Abs after 40 Workout
Sprinkle a few hot peppers into your lunchtime soup or evening stir-fry. They temporarily boost your resting metabolic rate, according to research done at Laval University in Canada. Here's why: Capsaicin, a compound found in jalapeño and cayenne peppers, temporarily stimulates your body to release more stress hormones, such as adrenaline, speeding up your metabolism and thus increasing your ability to burn calories, says study coauthor Angelo Tremblay, director of the Institute of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods at Laval. Bonus: The pepper-eaters had less of an appetite, Tremblay found, probably because the spiciness of the food made them feel full. How to Lose Weight Over 40 - The 6 Foundations For Men
During his stretch as one of the best point guards to ever play for the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony has been known to cleanse. Specifically, he’s taken part in a 15-day spiritual cleanse called “the Daniel Fast” (reports say it affected his game). Foods you can’t eat: meat, carbs, dairy, coffee, alcohol, and sugar. Foods you can eat: vegetables, whole grains.

Until this point, you've treated annual physicals as optional, but now you need to get serious. Blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugar levels all need routine checks, especially if you know there is a family history of troubles. The ache you feel today could be nothing -- then again, it may have been caused by too much or too little exercise, a diet deficiency, or something more serious. The sooner you catch it, the less damage done. If your knees ache, your back hurts, or you suffer from persistent headaches, see your doctor. Wouldn't you be hesitant to pilot a plane that didn't receive regular maintenance and service?

While java can boost your metabolism and give you the jolt you need to hit the gym, many bottled varieties can do just the opposite. Take Gold Peak’s salted caramel and almond toffee cold brew flavors. Both pack in 270 calories and a whopping 53 grams of sugar—that’s over double your daily recommended amount! Excess sugar can heighten your risk of diabetes, wreak havoc on your hormones, and cause collagen to decrease.

Make sure you eat breakfast. Eating a nutrient-rich morning meal (like oatmeal with almonds and berries, or a spinach-and-feta omelet with a slice of whole-grain toast) shortly after getting out of bed literally wakes up your metabolism. "Eating breakfast gets the engine going and keeps it going," Hyman explains. It's hard to argue with these results: According to the National Weight Control Registry (an ongoing study that tracks 5,000 people who lost an average of 66 pounds and kept it off more than five years), 78% of those who keep it off eat an a.m. meal every day.

Believe it or not, it may be the most important meal of the day as far as metabolism (and weight loss) is concerned. Breakfast eaters lose more weight than breakfast skippers do, according to studies. "Your metabolism slows while you sleep, and it doesn't rev back up until you eat again," explains Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., professor of nutrition at Penn State University and an author of The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan. So if you bypass breakfast, your body won't burn as many calories until lunchtime as it could. That's why it's smart to start the day with a solid 300- to 400-calorie meal; it jump-starts your metabolism.
Scarfing breakfast while checking email, working through lunch, and scrolling through your phone during dinner: Sound familiar? “When we eat in front of a computer or any screen, we eat more and feel less satisfied than when we eat in a tech-free zone,” says Ansel. Breaking the habit isn’t easy (we get it, a girl's got to multitask), but consuming fewer mindless calories is worth the struggle. If you can’t get out to eat lunch during the workday, visit the office break room for a few minutes to chow down. Then, attempt to eat dinner without the TV on or your phone in front of you. You might find that you actually like focusing on your food.

Remember how we said that the more muscle you have on your body, the better your metabolism works? Having more muscle increases your resting metabolic rate (RMR). This helps you burn more calories at rest—which is what you want if you’re aiming for weight loss after 40. So if you’ve been avoiding those weight machines or dumbbells, now’s the time to dedicate yourself to strength training. It is never too late to start strength training! If it is new to you, take advantage of any free personal training sessions that might be offered when you join a local gym or health club. This is often to familiarize you with the equipment and the layout of the facility, but can be a useful tool to get you started on a routine. Of course, if you have the finances to hire a trainer for a few sessions that’s another way to go. Weight Loss Tips for Women Over 40
Not only is vinegar great on salad, it’s also shown to “switch on” genes that release proteins that break down fat. In a study of 175 overweight Japanese men and women, researchers found that participants who drank one or two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily for 12 weeks significantly lowered their body weight, BMI, visceral fat, and waist circumference.
We'd be remiss not to include Madame Goop, who pretty much writes the book (or rather, blog) on whacky detox methods. After a period of indulgence (which could just mean that she had a solitary cigarette and glass of wine), Gwyneth likes to rely on an elimination diet to get her body back to square one. This entails cutting out a laundry list of foods that can potentially aggravate bodily allergies and disturb digestion, ranging from gluten to dairy to orange juice.

Iron deficiency affects more than 1 in 5 women in the U.S. Being deficient in essential minerals can show up in all kinds of ways, such as fatigue and anemia, but an iron deficiency can also be a blow for getting into your skinny jeans with relative ease. See, your body can’t work as efficiently to burn calories when it doesn’t have what it needs to work properly. A cup of lentils, it turns out, provides over a third of your daily iron needs. Legumes like lentils also have been shown to drive down bad cholesterol and blood pressure. That’s why they’re one of the 7 Best Foods to Eat for Rapid Weight Loss!

Have a few cups of java for a metabolism boost, but if you’re never seen without a mug at your lips, that could work against you, says nutritionist Amy Shapiro. Caffeine is a natural appetite suppressant. If you’re constantly consuming it, you may not eat much—or realize how hungry you really are—until you get home for dinner. “Not eating enough throughout the day can make your metabolism sluggish,” she says. “By the time you eat dinner, instead of immediately using that food for energy, your body is aggressively storing it as fat, just in case it will be deprived again.”
Studies conducted at The Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee suggest that consuming calcium—which milk has plenty of—may help your body metabolize fat more efficiently. Other studies have shown that increased calcium intake from dairy products (though not from supplemental calcium carbonate) caused study participants to poop out more fat as opposed to it sticking around on the body. weight loss diet for women

“As women, we have navigated the ‘mean girl’ stage of middle school, popularity contests in high school, workplace gossip, and even the mom groups,” notes Amy Rollo, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and owner of Heights Family Counseling. “Women in their 40s are tired and smarter. They no longer base friendships on popularity, but have learned to find their people. Those people are the ones that are there for you during divorces, death of a parent, and those trying times as a parent yourself. They are the ones that would drop everything and bring a bottle of wine, ice cream, and tissues to your place in a time of need. Women in their 40s understand how to find these friends.” Oh and speaking of? Here is The Single Best Way to Make New Friends.
Contrary to popular belief, researchers now say breakfast doesn’t kickstart the metabolism and may not be the most important meal of the day. A new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition had more than 300 overweight participants consume diets that included either eating or skipping breakfast. At the end of 16 weeks, dieters who ate breakfast lost no more weight than the breakfast skippers. And a second study in the same journal found eating breakfast had zero impact on resting metabolism. Breakfast is an ideal place to squeeze protein, fiber, and other nutrients into your day, but if the choice is a doughnut or nothing, opt for the nothing. Start your day with lean protein, which burns twice as many calories during digestion as fat or carbs. But don’t stress about squeezing it in before 9 a.m.
I am 61 and have lost 3 and a half stone in the last year. I joined Slimming World who recommend that you fill up on foods that are less calorie dense, and I have a cross-trainer at home. I built up the exercise gradually as I lost weight and got fitter. 15 minutes at first, I now do an hour on 6 days a week. I really think eating healthier and being more active is something we have to push ourselves to do. Only discovered it late in life, but thankfully not too late. 3 Simple Steps That Shrink & Incinerate "Over 40" Belly Fat
When Eat This, Not That! spoke with the dieting and fitness experts of ABC’s new show, “My Diet is Better Than Yours,” we learned some pretty incredible tips. One idea that seemed more attainable for someone over 40 is from wellness expert Jovanka Ciares, who said try eating only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. (Can you imagine a college guy or a new mom abiding by that rule?!) As long as you are still getting enough calories to keep your metabolism up, this tactic can help you lose weight because it puts your body into a fasted state, which Ciares says can make the process easier and faster.
Leave it to Madonna to come up with an attention-grabbing diet that has been right in front of our faces, literally, all along. When following the Air Diet, she goes through all the motions of eating: having someone plate the food, put it in front of her, stab it with a fork, and hold it up to her (you don’t think she does that stuff herself, do you??). That’s where it stops.  There is no actual eating involved, unless it's a "soup" of water and salt. We always called that a gargle.

7. You’re not getting enough sleep – lack of sleep has been shown to increase your risk of obesity. It’s a vicious cycle – you wake up exhausted after a rubbish night’s sleep, you reach for the wrong foods (to give you a quick energy boost), you end up even more tired and unable to sleep. AND insufficient sleep has been shown to increase your hunger hormone ghrelin! How to Fix a Slow Metabolism: MUST WATCH!
I’m also 5’4″ and overweight. Don’t give up or give in. I am 63, have MS and I get excited when I lose a few pounds, unfortunately, they’re back in the morning. I wonder, am I fighting a losing battle? I have found many exercises that look like they’d help. Unfortunately, I just collect web sites and exercises but never do them. How does one get motivated?

Adding a daily walk to your routine means you’ve taken the first step toward achieving a healthier weight. Middle-aged and senior women have an increased risk of hip fracture, but staying active can help you burn more calories and lower your chances of suffering an injury. Research suggests that regular exercise can reduce a person’s risk of osteoporosis, and shaving off those extra pounds means you’re putting less strain on your joints, making it easier to prevent a fall that can keep you sidelined.
Leave it to Taylor Swift to keep Brooklyn Decker in shape on top of everything else she does. The model and sometimes-actress told Women's Health that she relies on Tay's music to get her out of a fitness rut. "I returned from a trip to Australia and Munich, so I resorted to my secret, sure-fire method to get my body moving again. I blasted three Taylor Swift songs as loud as I could and started running in place and doing some stupid booty dancing," she revealed. "Maybe I look ridiculous, but dancing gets your energy up a lot better than running on a treadmill or pedaling a stationary bike." So true.
A lot of people can lose weight without breaking out the calculator at every meal. But as we age, our metabolism slows and we burn fewer calories per day than we did when we were younger, Bede explains. Because of this, it’s essential to ensure that you are not consuming more calories than you’re burning—so if you want to lose lbs, start counting.  How To Lose Belly Fat After 40
“Most 40-year-olds can remember the fat-free craze of the ’90s, when Snackwells was king,” says Shapiro. “Well, those days are over.” She advises that you leave the fat-free fake foods behind and enjoy healthy fats that add flavor to your meals and help you fill up with less. “Coconut oil, avocado, nuts, seeds, salmon are rich in vitamins and minerals that will keep you young and fill you up on smaller portions, and therefore fewer calories.” She says.

“I’m a foodie and I love to experience food, but at the same time I look at food as fuel and I want to give the best to my body. I don’t restrict myself, I can eat everything,” the former IDF member admitted to Harper’s Bazaar. “It’s all a matter of measurements and quantity of the food. Just give the food the respect and give yourself the respect to enjoy it.”
"As much as I love words on the page, I'm not fully satisfied until I get to speak them in person with others," Leslie adds. She's honored to travel and share from her passions nationally and internationally at conferences, universities, churches, and retreats. With three master's degrees, she has taught collegiate classes for many years, including six years in Seattle Pacific University's MFA program. If she can't see her audience, radio is a good second. Like the true Italian siren she is, the iconic actress loves pasta so much, she even famously published a cookbook devoted to her native country's cuisine (1971's In the Kitchen with Love). Here's the catch: According to celebrity diet guinea pig and author of I'll Have What She's Having, Rebecca Harrington, the portion sizes are very, very small—the size of a balled-up fist. Still, it's not a bad practice to scale down refined carbohydrates, and in the end, you get your spaghetti fix.

Gwyneth Paltrow famously turned to a macrobiotic diet in 1999, partly because of her dad’s illness (he died in 2002 from complications from oral cancer), but also because Leonardo DiCaprio planted the seed of “how dirty meat is” in her head years ago.  She doesn’t give her kids gluten, she avoids dairy, and pesticides are a no-no. But, see, there's nothing wrong with a weekend treat. For her, it’s cigarettes and booze.  It’s all about the ying and the yang, people.  My Top 5 Ab Exercises For Men Over 40 -- With Clark Bartram
You don’t say what the stress is caused by so I can’t tell you exactly what to do but it is clear that this is what has to be tackled before you can start to think about your weight. I know that I am stating the obvious here but sometimes we ignore the obvious. It’s easy to fall into that vicious circle of eating to try to cope with the stress and then getting depressed about eating too much and so on. You really need to get some help to cope with the stress and if possible get rid of the source. It’s not easy to do it alone. Have you consulted your doctor? I really hope you can find an answer to your problem and I wish I could help more. How To Lose Weight After 40
Derived from the Japanese tencha leaf and then stone-ground into a bright-green fine powder, matcha literally means “powdered tea,” and it’s incredibly good for you. Research shows the concentration of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in matcha to be 137 times greater than the amount you’ll find in most store-bought green tea. EGCG is a dieter’s best friend: Studies have shown the compound can simultaneously boost the breakdown of fat and block the formation of belly-fat cells. One study found men who drank green tea containing 136 milligrams of EGCG—what you’ll find in a single four-gram serving of matcha—lost twice as much weight than a placebo group and four times as much visceral (belly) fat over the course of three months. Need one more reason for tea time? A single serving sneaks in four grams of protein—that’s more than an egg white!
While Gaga's focus on whole foods is commendable, I probably wouldn't recommend her plan long-term since some of the foods she avoided are rich in important nutrients (a potato, for example, has twice the potassium of a banana and most of us don't meet our potassium needs). If you want to keep blood sugar levels stable without feeling like you're on a roller coaster, consume carbohydrates along with protein, fat or both (think almond butter on your toast or Greek yogurt on your baked potato). This powerful combo may calm your mood and make you feel more emotionally and physically satisfied.
I eat mostly whole30 (I have 8 ounces of red wine at night). I am 42 year old mother (20 month old and 7 year old) I am having the hardest time losing my BELLY. I was exercising 3 times a week at the gym with circuit training, but my knees are bad so I had to modify all the exercises. Anyway, I just bought book and I am hoping this will help. I have a bad dairy allergy so will need to omit the butter and dairy. Any other advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I hate being a fat mom.
In your 20s and 30s, you may have been able to lose weight with a walking program or simply by staying more active during the day. But in your 40s, losing weight takes smarter planning. You need three types of exercise to slim down, tone up and stay healthy. Make sure you incorporate cardiovascular exercise, strength training and stretching into your weekly program. Each type of exercise provides unique weight loss benefits. Nutrition for Women After 40

The freezer aisle is stocked with appetizing frozen dinners that make busy weeknight suppers a breeze, but these convenient and inexpensive foods may cost you your health in the long run. Many of these meals are jam-packed with sodium and preservatives and are void of sufficient fiber, which will help keep you full and less prone to midnight munchies.

To achieve a better macronutrient ratio, don’t worry about counting macros with fancy apps. All you need to do is break down your meals like this: center your meals around non-starchy vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, kale, peppers, zucchini, mushrooms and green beans. Fill at least half of your plate with these lower calorie, high-fiber foods to satisfy hunger and pack in the nutrition. How To Lose Weight After 40
Allow me to cut to the chase: Going on a heart-healthy diet isn’t nearly as grim as you probably think it will be. Think it’s all chicken breasts and broccoli? Think again. According to leading nutritionists and the latest studies, you can eat chocolate, pasta, and wash it all down with some wine. (That is, of course, if you’re springing for the healthy options of all these so-called “bad” foods. More on that later.) What follows is a comprehensive compendium of all the mouthwatering cuisine—whether it’s a new dietary addition or a simple swap for an existing staple—you should eat to build a ticker as strong as steel. Losing Weight Over 50 - How To Get Thin Now That Life Has Changed
One of the most important things you can do to lose pounds as you age is to shed water weight. Drinking more water will actually help reduce bloat, as will cutting the amount of salt in your diet — it immediately affects how your kidneys control the water balance in your body. An excess of salt may cause the body to retain water, leading to swelling. Avoid condiments, chips, pretzels, frozen and canned foods, deli meat, bread and other baked goods like they’re the second season of True Detective.
Oxidative stress occurs when the balance between free radicals in the body and our ability to fight against them is uneven, with free radicals prevailing. Free radicals can cause disease and there is an association with an increased risk of formation of free radicals as we age. That's why after a certain age, building up our defenses (through having lots of antioxidants in plants) can help reduce this imbalance and stack the cards in our defense system instead.
23. You’re a serial yo-yo dieter – (this was me!) – you’re on the vicious diet treadmill. You’ve done every diet going. You lose weight initially, feel great, finish the diet, and pile it back on again (and some more). We know these diets don’t really work, but each new one has so much promise! And you’ll be more disciplined next time? It’s not about will power though – when you deprive your body of calories, healthy fat, protein or nutrients, it will go into survival mode, trying to protect you. That means your cortisol will rise, your cravings kick in and your metabolism will crash (see no 1, 2, and 20!).
Noshing throughout the day is a proven strategy to help you curb hunger and eat fewer calories overall. Now, experts are promoting nibbling versus gorging as a way to keep metabolism running by holding blood sugar levels steady and preventing weight-gain-promoting insulin spikes. Enjoying six small meals a day should do the trick; keep them around 300 calories each, or divide your usual day's calories by six.
Bodybuilders have long sworn by eating every few hours to keep their muscles fueled, but don’t discount the weight loss potential of three squares a day. A study in the journal Hepatology put two groups of men on weight-gain diets. One group divided the calories among three small meals with snacks in between while the second group ate the same number of calories in three square meals. While both groups gained weight, researchers found that belly fat—the dangerous kind that increases heart-disease risk—only increased in the high-meal frequency group. A weight-loss diet plan when you're over 40 looks like any healthy plan, but with moderate portions that fit your calorie needs. No one diet is best; instead, certain habits help you succeed. Avoid sugary sweets, especially soda and baked treats, as well as refined grains found in white bread, pasta and rice. Your intake of alcohol, even that supposedly healthy glass of red wine, should also be limited.
When Pippa Middleton was preparing for her sister Kate’s wedding, she followed the Dukan Diet, which is a really popular French program that’s most similar to Atkins. But for her own wedding, Middleton was on the SirtFood diet. It’s extremely restrictive, and focuses on foods that are high in polyphenols — micronutrients found in plant foods — which supposedly help activate a person’s sirtuin (or “skinny”) genes. This is an Ultimate List of the hottest women over 40. It's hard to believe that some of these well known women are over 40, considering it seems like yesterday that they just burst onto the scene. But these women have aged extremely well, hardly looking a day over 30. There are a bunch of familiar faces on this list. Jennifer Aniston, Elizabeth Hurley, Leslie Mann, and Jennifer Garner are prime examples of hot women over 40. The common bond between these women, besides age of course, is that they're in tremendous physical shape. Between their frequent movie roles, they're defying logic by staying busy while aging as gracefully as an actress can in their particular situations. 4 Quirky Tips to Lose Weight

According to a review published in the journal Obesity, legumes—including beans, chickpeas, lentils and peas—could keep you from the snack drawer until dinner. Researchers found that subjects who consumed between ¾ and 1 cup of legumes daily felt as much as 31 percent fuller than those who didn’t! But there’s a catch: Although participants felt fuller when they ate legumes, they didn’t always eat less throughout the day. It’s still up to you to tune out the call of cravings—a completely different beast than hunger. But when it comes to willpower boosters, beans are a great way to get a jumpstart. “Cutting back on processed carbohydrates is essential for weight loss after 40,” explains Jennifer Cassetta, clinical nutritionist, personal trainer and health expert from ABC’s “My Diet Is Better Than Yours.” “Maintaining blood sugar and insulin levels is vital to weight loss, so cutting back on foods that spike blood sugar and insulin is a must.” A good place to start would be by replacing the refined carbs in your diet with unsweetened steel-cut oatmeal. Oats are a solid source of blood sugar-regulating magnesium, a nutrient that also helps boost fat burn. Easy Weight Loss Tips For Women Over 40 Years Of Age

I was the type of person who up until my late 30s could eat whatever I wanted and never work out and rarely gained a pound. If I wanted to “loose” weight meaning the five pounds of holiday weight I had put on all I had to do was start exercising doing some cardio and it fell off. Then all the sudden that stopped and now I am 20 pounds over weight and almost 41 years old and the only way for me to loose weight is to starve. I have been tested for medical conditions, I do not take any medications. I have been to a nutritionist, several actually. I have revamped my diet, I have done weight watchers, I hired a trainer and I work out 6 days a week. I have been told work out less you will be less hungry, did that nada. Cut carbs, cut diary, tried that too. The conclusion I have come to is that due to my small frame (I am only 5’1) I have to work out daily and not eat more than 1200 calories a day if I want to lose weight. I cannot do that, it makes me utterly miserable and angry. I had my metabolism tested via one of those breathing machines and it was so slow. Doctors will never admit that anyone should eat less than 1200 but my doctor looked at me and basically said 1200 is the maximum you can eat. I have never yo yo dieted, in fact I was never on a diet until I was 38, never needed to be. My Mom had the same exact thing happen to her. At this point I have two choices, be miserable and hungry all of the time, or be 20 pounds over weight and be happy, I chose the latter. Trying to live and eat 1200 calories a day every single day, is not reasonable and is a recipe for failure. I compare this to men who don’t want to admit that as they age they need Viagra. All of them say oh no I have sex like a 20 year old, no you don’t. And they don’t talk about their struggles with each other they just boast. For women I think we may just need to accept that extra 20 pounds that comes along with age, rather than fighting a loosing battle and being miserable.
Although it’s true that egg whites are low in calories, fat-free, and contain most of the protein found in an egg, eating the entire egg is beneficial to your metabolism. The yolk contains many metabolism-stoking nutrients, including fat-soluble vitamins, essential fatty acids and—most significantly—choline, a powerful compound that attacks the gene mechanism that triggers your body to store fat around your liver. Worried about cholesterol? New studies have found that moderate consumption of two whole eggs per day has no negative effect on a person’s lipid (fat) profile and may actually improve it.
After attending culinary school, the actress invested in a bunch of fancy kitchen tools—but her all-time favorite tool is her Vitamix blender. “I use it every single day,” Kelly told PEOPLE at a Dove Chocolate event. “Every morning I make my smoothie. I actually used to go buy the smoothie I’m now able to make.” Inside her go-to drink, Kelly uses a vegetable-based protein powder, blueberries, ⅓ of a banana, crushed almonds and almond milk. “It feels very good making it myself,” she says.

HMB—short for beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate—is a protein-related compound that encourages your muscles to use the macronutrient more efficiently, Bede explains. “Taking a HMB supplement can assist with muscle growth post 40,” she adds. Also consider a D-rich multivitamin. “Generally, men over 40 are deficient in vitamin C, Vitamin D, magnesium, B vitamins, and zinc,” says Kominiarek. Vitamin D is particularly important since it’s so crucial to both muscle and bone health, yet people tend to spend less time outside, exposed to sunlight after 40, Bede adds. It’s always better to score nutrients from real whole foods, but Kominiarek says supplementation is a must as we age.
Slayton says that fortysomething clients come into her office saying things like, “I’m doing the same things I always did to lose weight and they’re not working.” “Of course they’re not,” she says. “With each decade, the weight rules change. Liz Hurley has been linked to some odd diets in her day. In 2002, in an effort to lose weight after giving birth, she retreated to Elton John’s house and ate nothing but oatcakes.  Years later, she shared that she thought adults shouldn’t eat breakfast. If you happen to be at her house for dinner, you’ll indulge in another of her diet fads: watercress soup. "I drink at least six cups a day when I am eager to lose a few pounds," she said. "It's fat-less, low-calorie, full of vitamins and iron, and delicious enough to serve at a dinner party."

At the advice of her dermatologist, Dr. Harold Lancer, Beckham has incorporated omega-3-rich fish into her daily diet. “I used to have really problematic skin and he said to me, ‘You have to eat salmon every single day,’” she told The Edit. “I said, ‘Really, every day?’ And he said, ‘Yes. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, you have to eat it every single day.’”

Very soon, I’ll stand up in front of the graduating class of my former high school and give the commencement speech. I’ll focus on the usual “work hard” and “follow your dream” themes, but, in reality, I just want to shout out to all those 17-year-olds — “have that ice cream cone, you’ll still fit into your skinny jeans tomorrow! ” Or “it’s OK to skip a workout, your muscle mass will help you bounce back!”
I look at life as a plane flight. Several decades ago, your parents started the engine. They revved the motor and headed down the runway until -- liftoff! -- you were born. Your plane continued to climb through childhood and adolescence, until you reached adulthood: full cruising altitude. Throughout your 20s and 30s, flying felt effortless. No matter what you ate, how little you slept, or how infrequently you exercised, your body kept its sleek, strong lines. No engine troubles for you!
Sure, we’re in the golden age of television, but one of the easiest ways to increase your over-40 weight loss is by turning off the TV (as much as it may break your heart to miss the latest GoT). A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals that people who snacked while watching TV ate 10 percent more per sitting than those who focused on their food. Even more depressing, research published in the Journal of Consumer Research indicates that seeing beauty advertisements can trigger feelings of inadequacy in women, which can often lead to emotional eating. Why do People start Gaining weight in Late 20's?

"As we age, our lives become more complicated, whether it's with children, with work, with aging parents, and so we have less time really to be more physically active and pay attention to what we're eating. Food is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in large portions that are relatively economical and so food is always around, and we tend to have more mindless eating and cut down on activities," she says.

weight gain in late 40s

This is less of a diet and more of a lifestyle, which makes it one of the more sustainable options for long-term benefits. In essence, a plant-based diet means your meals are primarily composed of fruits, veggies, nuts, whole grains, and seeds. You can still eat meat when you’re plant-based, but it should be viewed as more of a side dish rather than the main component of your meals.

The truth: As with any eating plan, if you can stick with the lifestyle changes it advises for a long time, it might be worth a shot. Experts also advise people transitioning to a vegan diet to replace meat and dairy with foods that have a similar nutritional profile, like tofu, beans, and dark, leafy greens to ward off nutrient deficiencies. Also, instead of Bey and Jay Z's plan, which costs about $600 for 22 days, you might want to simply try going vegan with a friend.
